In 2022 “Thor: Love and Thunder” arrived. The fourth film focuses solely on the superhero played by Chris Hemsworth, tells how the God of Thunder, in search of inner peace, retreats, but his tranquility is interrupted by the appearance of a galactic assassin known as Gorr, the Butcher of the Gods, who seeks the disappearance of all the gods. To deal with this threat, Thor is forced to enlist the help of his allies: Queen Valkyrie, Korg, and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster.
Despite the high expectations fans had from the film, it failed to live up to them. Now, the lead actor is talking about what went wrong in the film
Chris Hemsworth reveals what he did wrong in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’
In a recent interview with “Vanity Fair,” Hemsworth admitted that “Thor: Love and Thunder” didn’t live up to Marvel fans’ expectations. And not only that, but, in an exercise in reflection, he confessed what, in his opinion, he himself had failed.
“I got caught up in improvisation and madness and became a parody of myself. I didn’t hit the nail on the head [de lo que el personaje ameritaba]”, he assured.
Months ago, in an interview with “GQ” in July 2023, the actor had already mentioned that the film was “too dumb” for its own good.
In that sense, Chris Hemsworth believes audiences deserve another Thor movie in which the role is taken more seriously, as Vanity Fair paraphrases.
The 40-year-old actor also admitted that despite his gratitude for the character, he grew frustrated with him as he “felt like a security guard for the team”.
“I was reading everyone else’s lines and I was like, ‘Oh, they have a lot more interesting stuff.’ They have more fun. What does my character do? It was always “You’ve got the wig on”. You have the muscles. You have the suit. Where is the enlightenment?’ Yeah, I’m part of this big thing, but I’m probably pretty replaceable,” Hemsworth reflected on his portrayal of Thor.
The truth is that not everyone shares his views on the superhero he played. Hemsworth’s Marvel co-star and Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. defended him when asked about it:
“First of all, Thor as a character was very difficult to adapt, with a lot of implicit limitations, but he, along with Ken Branagh, figured out how to overcome that, to make him somehow relatable but divine. Hemsworth is, in my opinion, the most complex psyche of all the Avengers. “He has intelligence and seriousness, but also a lot of moderation, fire and gentleness.”
What did critics say about ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’?
The film received mixed reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, for example, critics gave it a 63 percent approval rating, compared to 76 percent for the general public.
According to the specialty site, the critical consensus was: “In some ways, ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ feels like a stripped-down ‘Ragnarok,’ but overall, it offers enough fast-paced fun to make this a worthwhile addition to the MCU game.
