The Terminal List on Prime Video: ‘Nonstop Psychological Thriller’ According to Taylor Kitsch

After Outer Range or The Summer I Became Pretty, Amazon Prime Video today launches a new event series, The Terminal List hosted by Chris Pratt, currently in theaters Jurassic World: The World After, Taylor Kitsch ( Friday Night Lights ). Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians) and Riley Keogh (Magic Mike).

Produced by Equalizer and Training Day director Antoine Fuqua, who also directed the first episode, this thriller based on the novel by Jack Carr focuses on James Rees (Chris Pratt), a Navy SEAL whose entire regiment dies during a mission of great importance. .

Back home in California, Rhys has conflicting memories of what happened during this assassination mission. And he begins to wonder if he is responsible for the death of his people, if he is crazy or if there is a conspiracy behind this tragedy.

A few days ago at the Monte Carlo TV Festival, where the first episodes were previewed, Taylor Kitsch and screenwriter David Digilio told us about this new series, which is cut for fans of action and tense military narratives.

AlloCiné: Taylor, can you tell us what drew you to The Terminal List and the character of Ben Edwards?

Taylor Kitsch : The fact that it was directed by Antoine Fuqua and adapted from Jack Carr’s bestselling novels was a real guarantee of quality for me. And then this news immediately appealed to me. It’s a psychological thriller that I find quite unstoppable. I also appreciated the originality of the series. I think we all need a little originality these days (laughs).

Other than that, I obviously fell in love with the character. Ben Edwards rises through the ranks of the army with Chris Pratt’s character, James Reese, who quickly becomes his best friend. It’s Ben who greets James when he returns from this mission that turned into a nightmare. And together they will try to find out what really happened.

How was your collaboration with Chris Pratt?

Taylor Kitsch: Chris is awesome. He is a very funny person who is very easy to communicate and work with. Everything happened naturally between the two of us. And all the better, because on-screen this relationship and this couple is the common theme of the story.

Did you have to go through any special training to play Ben?

Taylor Kitsch: I was fortunate to prepare for the role with a military consultant who helped me both psychologically and physically. And what’s quite funny is that he trained me already on Blood and Tears, which I did in 2013 and which remains one of the most important experiences of my career.

David, the series is adapted from Jack Carr’s novel of the same name. did you catch the book

David Digilio : We stayed very true to the plot of the A novel and to the character of James Rhys. We also wanted to respect the authenticity found in the novel in terms of everything related to the military world. So we worked with ex-Navy and Special Forces personnel to bring everything that could be felt and read in the novel to the screen with the utmost realism.

How involved was Antoine Fuqua in the writing and production of the series?

David Digiglio: The pilot is directed by Antoine Fuqua and he is also an executive producer. Chris Pratt, who also holds the producer hat, and Antoine played a major role in plot building, plot development, and in particular the Season 1 arcs. And it’s the same for Jack Carr. We knew that if we were going to make any plot changes, the novelist had to be happy with those changes.

Taylor Kitsch: I’ll say it again: Antoine is one of the main reasons I signed on to do the series. I wanted to work with him for a long time. He knows how to convince his actors and give them meaning and some power. For me, the best directors are the ones who let you do your thing and trust you. He gave me the freedom to take risks. I enjoyed working with him and I hope we have the opportunity to do so again.

Do you get the feeling that a series like The Terminal List won’t see the light of day anywhere but on a streaming platform like Amazon Prime Video or Netflix?

David Digilio: Of course. You can’t imagine a series like this on a traditional network. It’s a series that was essentially made to see the light of day on a streaming platform like Amazon. The resources and production qualities required to create what we call “cinevision,” a true hybrid between film and television, are enormous.

And that’s what Prime Video does with most of its series. They encourage real stars to bring their original fiction to life, whether it’s Taylor and Chris Pratt on The Terminal List or Josh Brolin on Outer Range. And in order to offer something as interesting as The Terminal List or The Lord of the Rings series, you need to have platform support and awesome power, that’s obvious.

Do you have any upcoming projects you can tell us about?

Taylor Kitsch: After The Terminal List, I directed the Netflix series Painkiller, which is about the opioid crisis. It’s directed by Peter Berg, and I think it’s the project I’m most proud of since the beginning of my career.

David Digilio: As for me, I’m 100% focused on the terminal list. We are waiting to find out if we will renew for season 2. But we have already started thinking about what to do next.
