Neve Campbell on negotiations for Scream 7: “Respect reestablished”

After being absent from the sixth film, the actress returns as Sidney Prescott to replace Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, who left the franchise

After the announcement that he is back in the franchise Panic, Neve Campbell spoke about negotiations to return with Sydney Prescott after being left out Scream 6(2023) due to salary differences. In an interview with Peoplethe actress stated that she was pleased that her complaints had been heard, allowing her to return in Scream 7.

“I am very grateful to the studio for listening to me when I spoke about the payment discrepancy, and when I said that negotiations for Scream 6 they were not respectful of my status within the franchise. When they got in touch to talk about Scream 7, I didn’t know if that respect had been reestablished. But they came with a strong offer, and that was a relief.”said.

Neve Campbell announced, in March this year, that he would return to live Sydney in the new film in the franchise slasher: I am very happy and proud to say that I was asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sydney back on screen and I couldn’t be more excited!!!”the actress wrote under a photo of the script for the 7th film.

In the publication, Campbell also revealed that the new chapter will be directed by Kevin Williamsoncreator of the story and responsible for the scripts for the first four films, directed by Wes Craven (1939-2015):

“I’ve been living with Sydney, so I feel great returning to it. And I’m very excited for Kevin, because this franchise is his baby. He deserves this ‘promotion’, and he will definitely do a great job.”added the actress to People.

The return of Neve Campbell was already highly anticipated by fans, especially after the dismissal of Melissa Barrera (In a New York Neighborhood) and the output of Jenna Ortega(Wandinha), who were the current protagonists of the franchise, amid a series of controversies involving the conflict between Israel and Palestine. Campbell stayed out of Scream 6 after feeling offended by the salary proposal to participate in the sequel. “Unfortunately, I won’t be doing the next ‘Scream’ movie. As a woman, I’ve had to work really hard in my career to establish my worth, especially when it comes to film. I felt that the offer presented to me did not match the value I brought to the franchise“, said the actress in a statement released at the time of the news.
