You’ve swallowed my little deer for a day or so, chances are you’ll be shocked by the series. In just a few days, creator Richard Gadd’s story has established itself as a true phenomenon, the kind Netflix knows how to create. To extend the experience, AlloCiné offers five series that are in the same genre. Take care, don’t be discouraged.
Swarm (Prime Video)
From the imagination of Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, the Swarm series takes the theme of obsession even further. The story focuses on the world of pop stars and especially their fans. We follow the fate of Dre, a warm-hearted fan of the singer Nijha – a fictional version of Beyoncé.
His love for the artist is such that it drives him to the irredeemable: murder. With a much lighter tone than My Little Reindeer, Swarm doesn’t stay a dark and interesting series centered on a character who completely loses touch with reality. You won’t see groupies like before.
Relentless (Netflix)
Here again the tone is different, but the Acharnés series has a lot in common with my little deer. The story begins with a simple incident on the road that brings two strangers together. This clash, as happens every day in the cities, will turn the daily life of the two characters into madness.
Determined to find each other and destroy their lives, they begin an investigation to find information about each other. Their new rivalry will only get more brutal. Thanks to sharp writing and excellent performances, Acharnés is a series not to be missed under any circumstances.
You (Netflix)
It has become an iconic product of the Netflix platform and is hard to miss in the “obsessive watching” department. Joe is a charming man on the outside, but in reality he is anything but. As he watches Beck in a New York bookstore, the audience’s anxiety has only just begun.
Much more conventional in form, You’re a Thousand Miles from My Little Deer, but its two stalker characters only justify the comparison. In total, the series has 4 seasons. The fifth should arrive by the end of the year.
I Can Destroy You (Prime Video)
Here’s another shock, like my little deer. Created by and starring Brit Michaela Coel, the series is inspired by its author’s story of being sexually assaulted in a nightclub. I May Destroy You focuses on the various stages of reconstruction that are an obstacle for victims of sexual assault.
Trauma, regaining speech, emerging from shame… all these subjects are dealt with in my little deer with the same spirit and sense of experience. The main asset is the exceptional performance of its lead actress, Michaela Coel.
Ripley (Netflix)
Ripley is certainly the farthest from my little deer in this series of choices. It still deserves its spot for two reasons. First, because it’s one of the best pieces of fiction Netflix has ever released, and it came out the day before Richard Gaddy. The second reason is because it features one of the greatest manipulative characters in literature and film, Tom Ripley, a man willing to do anything to destroy the lives of those who cross his path.
