The Paramount + platform has decided to cancel “Why Women Kill” (Why Women Kill), seven months after announcing the renewal of the series for its third season. The production developed by Marc Cherry (creator of “Desperate Housewives”) was downsizing the cast for new episodes when the streamer reversed its original orientation.

“Paramount + has made the difficult decision not to move forward with the third season of ‘Why Women Kill’,” Paramount + announced in a statement. “We would like to thank our partners at CBS Studios and Imagine Television Studios, the incredible creator and showrunner Marc Cherry and the incredible writers, cast and crew for two memorable seasons.”

Launched in August 2019, the series became one of the streaming service’s most-watched original productions, when it was still called CBS All Access, a condition referenced in the statement signed by the platform’s executive vice president of original content at the time, Julie. McNamara.

Last December, during the series renewal, Nicole Clemens, president of the current Paramount +, even mentioned the attraction’s high performance, ranking it as one of the “top 10 series on Paramount + in terms of engagement and acquisition of new subscribers”.

Created by Marc Cherry, responsible for the success of “Desperate Housewives”, the series was an anthology that told different stories with new casts each season. In her debut, there were three stories with each character living in a different era: Ginnifer Goodwin (“Once Upon a Time”) as a 1960s housewife, Lucy Liu (“Elementary”) as of a socialite from the 1980s and Kirby Honell-Baptiste (“The Good Place”) as a lawyer nowadays. In all cases, the characters face situations of infidelity in their marriages.

The second season followed a new series of characters who also dealt with acts of betrayal, including Allison Tolman (“Emergence”), Lana Parrilla (“Once Upon a Time”), BK Cannon (“The Politician”) and Veronica Falcon (“Ozark”).
