Kristen Stewart will debut as director in an adaptation of The Chronology of Water (2011), a memoir by Lidia Yuknavitch
Featured films like Love Lies Bleeding – Love Bleeds (2024), Twilight (2008), Spencer (2021) and Deep Threat (2020), Kristen Stewart will make her directorial debut in a film about “incest and menstruation,” which is “sometimes difficult to watch.”
The first production of Stewart directed is an adaptation of the memoir The Chronology of Waterreleased in 2011 and written by Lidia Yuknavitch. According to the synopsis, the work addresses “issues of gender, sexuality, violence and family, from the point of view of a veteran swimmer who became an artist.”
In writing that explores the nature of the memoir itself, the story traces the effect of extreme suffering on the development of a young woman’s sexuality, which some define as non-traditional due to her attraction to both men and women. Emergence as a writer evolves at the same time and takes the narrator on a journey of addiction, self-destruction and, ultimately, survival that finally arrives in the form of love and motherhood.
During an interview with PORTERthe artist explained how the film “is about incest and menstruation and a woman violently taking back her voice and her body, and it’s sometimes hard to watch… but it’s going to be a thrilling ride.”
“I think people would like to see that, but… I think maybe people would want to watch movies about Jesus and dogs,” he added. Kristen Stewart. Furthermore, the artist commented on the feeling of working as a director after years and years as an actress.
“It’s a bit of an embarrassing thing to talk about, because it’s difficult to do anything,” he said. “As an actress, I am called to serve other people’s vision,” she said. “You get greedy; it’s nice to get a comment… even if you don’t love it.”
I think it’s good that as I get older, I prefer to adapt my experiences to results-oriented goals rather than just saying, ‘This will be good for me now.’
