Lord of the Rings cast mourns: Several trilogy stars pay tribute to Bernard Hill

“Forward, fear not the darkness! Arise! Arise, Theoden’s steeds! Spears shake, shields shatter! The day of the sword, the red day till sunrise! Gallop, gallop gallop! Run! Run to ruin and the end of the world!”

20 years after The Return of the King hit theaters, the fields and dark rooms of Pelennor still ring with Théoden’s impassioned speech, urging his riders to attack Sauron’s armies. Although his master interpreter, the British actor Bernard Hill, died this Sunday, May 5, at the age of 79, every fan of The Lord of the Rings surely thought of this sequence (often considered one of the most successful worldwide. Saga) upon learning the sad news.

Since yesterday, the King of Rohan (also known for playing the captain of the Titanic in James Cameron’s film) has been getting a lot of attention on social media, and some of the actors from the Peter Jackson trilogy have also wanted to pay tribute to his memory.

On stage at Liverpool Comic Con, where the actor was due to appear this weekend, the interpreters of the four hobbits Frodo, Sam, Mary and Pippin spoke with emotion:

“We lost a member of our family this morning”Sean Astin, Sam Gamgi’s interpreter, said.

“Bernard Hill is dead. King Theoden. We just want to take a moment before we leave the stage to honor him, he should have been here today. We loved him. He was fearless, he was funny, he was rough. He was annoying, he was brilliant.”

Billy Boyd, who played Pippin in the saga, paid tribute to Bernard Hill’s great talent:

“I don’t think anyone has been able to express Tolkien’s words as well as Bernard. How he managed to make those words so real, it broke my heart when I saw him on screen. He was a special person and we will do that. I miss him terribly.”

“Farewell to our friend, our king, Bernard Hill, we will never forget you.”Frodo’s translator Elijah Wood posted on his X account.

Dominic Monaghan, who played the role of the mayor, paid tribute to the deceased actor on Instagram:

“The broken king has gone to the gray shelter, but we will never forget him”he wrote.
