Solidarity and support for citizens affected by bad weather: the new measures aim to mitigate the impacts of the flood and encourage the city’s recovery.
In response to the challenges faced by the population of Porto Alegre due to the recent floods, the Municipality, through the Department of Municipal Finance, announces the extension of deadlines for taxes such as the Urban Property and Land Tax (IPTU), waste collection Fee (TCL) and Tax on Services of any Nature – Personal Work (ISS-TP, paid by self-employed workers). The measures, which will be published in the Municipality’s Official Gazette, aim to offer an additional period for taxpayers affected by the flood to organize themselves financially and recover from the damage caused by the bad weather.
Measures to support taxpayers:
- Deadline extension: The deadline for self-employed ISS (ISS-TP), IPTU and TCL workers for the month of May has been extended to August, providing a more flexible deadline for paying taxes.
- Suspension of collection actions: Administrative and judicial collection actions, such as denial and protest, are suspended for taxpayers who are unable to pay taxes in the month of May. This measure aims to prevent default and protect the credit of affected citizens.
- Refund priority: The City will prioritize refund procedures to expedite support for taxpayers who need refunds.
- Suspension of in-person subpoenas: In-person subpoenas at the Department of Finance are suspended until May 31, 2024, following security measures established by the City.
- Other measures: In addition to the measures indicated above, the Municipality is also evaluating other actions to help the population affected by the floods, such as the creation of emergency credit lines and the offer of social assistance services.
The Municipality of Porto Alegre recognizes the challenges faced by the population due to the floods and reiterates its commitment to helping affected citizens. The measures announced aim to mitigate the impacts of the flood and contribute to the city’s recovery. The Municipality also invites the community to join in a solidarity effort to help families who have lost their possessions and need support.
