Planet of the Apes The New Kingdom: We recap the ending of the previous film, Supremacy

On May 8, the public will be able to discover the new chapter of the Planet of the Apes saga in cinemas! Titled The New Kingdom, this feature film is a sequel to Supremacy, which was released in theaters on August 2, 2017.

After 7 years, in what situation will we find primates? Before embarking on this new Simian adventure, here’s a little focus on the outcome of the previous part so you don’t get lost in seeing the new kingdom.

As a reminder, Supremacy completed the Planet of the Apes trilogy initiated by Rupert White in 2011. Matt Reeves took up the torch with L’Affrontement in 2014, then Suprémacie in 2017.

Caesar’s legacy

Led by Andy Serkis, who played Caesar in the play, the trilogy grossed $1.7 billion at the worldwide box office. Thus, this success allowed a new chapter to begin with The New Kingdom under Wes Ball.

At the end of Planet of the Apes: Supremacy, Caesar managed to free his peers from the unforgiving yoke of the Colonel, played by Woody Harrelson. Unfortunately, during the fight, a sniper shot the preacher monkey with a crossbow. After traveling through the desert, the leader and his ilk arrive at an idyllic location discovered by Rocket.

Caesar, greatly weakened by his injury, begins to collapse. His friend Mori then promises that he will do everything in his power to pass down his story from generation to generation. The monkey leader shed one last tear before taking his last breath.

A promise made to Caesar

The New Kingdom therefore lives up to Morrissey’s promise as a direct continuation of the trilogy that began 13 years ago. Caesar’s story has been well told over time, and certain primate clans have distorted his message.

This is the starting point for the new chapter, which takes place many years after Caesar’s death (the film does not specify the number of years, it just says that the story takes place “several generations later”).

The monkeys definitely took over. Humans, on the other hand, are in a wild state and live in solitude. As a new tyrannical leader gradually builds his empire, a young ape embarks on a perilous journey that will lead him to question everything he knows about the past and make choices that will shape the future of apes and humans alike.
