Every day the NGO Adopt a kitten, from San Paolo (SP), receives numerous ransom requests. One of these cases was that of the cat Malu, who arrived at the institute in 2022, with severely burned paws and ear. “We were informed that she had fallen on a school transformer,” says Taciane Ribeiro, a volunteer for the organization.

“At first we focused on the burns and her front legs and ears were amputated,” he says. While she recovered from the surgery, the organization enlisted the help of its supporters to order prosthetics so she could walk again.

During the recovery period, they discovered that Malu was infected with sporotrichosis, a fungus. The entire treatment was slow and several unexpected events occurred during the process. One of these was that, during surgery to place the prosthetics, one of them broke and had to be redone.

Malu then changed vets and went to Barretos (SP) to be assisted by a professional with experience in prosthetics. “She finally received her new paws and they were a great success,” recalls Taciane.

The cat remained under observation at the new veterinarian for two months. “He demonstrated, through his behavior, that he really needed and appreciated prosthetics. It was really very touching,” he says.

When he returned to São Paulo (SP), Malu remained in a temporary home with the NGO volunteers, awaiting his adoption. The group looked for a family that would provide suitable conditions for the kitten to live safely. When she was finally adopted, everyone celebrated, but then she was returned. “It was very frustrating for the whole team and also for Maluzinha, but we had no right to give up and we insisted,” says Taciane.

“As if it were a Christmas present, the perfect adopter appeared. She has been through a lot and has never lost the ability to love human beings. This moves us and also makes us want to improve as a species”, he concludes the volunteer.

The NGO Adote um Gatinho maintains its operations with the help of donations and volunteer work. To contribute to the happy ending of other stories like this you can help us by using the key Pix 08.858.329/0001-08.
