A bit too much: “It was impossible for us to predict such enthusiasm”… Why is Artus’ film such a hit at the cinema?

A bit too much: “It was impossible for us to predict such enthusiasm”… Why is Artus’ film such a hit at the cinema?

A big start for a little something extra! The first comedy directed by Artus attracted huge audiences on the May 1st public holiday and the success has continued ever since! As we write these lines, the film has already crossed one million in just 5 days! On its first day, the film was even stronger than The Untouchables, which recorded 191,342 admissions and Good God, 200,723 admissions on their first day.

Artus signs his first production, in theaters this Wednesday. A sunny and touching comedy with disabled actors. Almost 30 years after Le Huitième jour, a film starring Daniel Ott and Pascal Duquesne that greatly moved and touched society at the time, A little something extra Continuing on this path, finding a balance between humor, emotion and above all the great good that can awaken the conscience.

We asked David Beaudry, the film’s distributor, to shed some light on this unexpected success!

How do you explain the film’s success so far?

David Beaudry (Pan Distribution): Success is difficult to explain, it depends on many parameters. We had faith in Artus’ film, it was well written and successful, but it was impossible to predict such enthusiasm, to imagine that one out of three viewers who went to the cinema in the first 5 days of May would choose something small. too much

It is my firm belief that this solar film radiates the love Artus has for all these actors. No audience is left indifferent, they spend a happy time with this team and distribute it in crowded rooms in a communion typical of cinema!

“1,000,000 thanks ❤️!!! Thanks everyone, it’s absolutely crazy 🤯! We are on cloud nine, it’s a dream! Thank you, thank you, thank you! We kiss you! 🎉❤️

What was it like to preview the film? did you do a lot

Outsider, on May 1st, we decided to launch a distribution campaign on February 14th, two weeks before the national release, confident that Artus would mobilize the community on digital networks and during his show tour. Valuable indicators. With 25,000 admissions on one date and 240 theaters, it was a huge success as it is the highest score in a year for a preview of a French film not from a franchise/IP and an average of 107 viewers without a preview of the film. The Crew is a level rarely achieved by an independent film. The status of cinema was then promoted to the profession.

The appetite of the regional community for comedies and popular films is undeniable

Like a similar movie Small victoriesIs there a regional audience that travels a lot for this film?

In the regions, the public appetite for comedies and popular films is undeniable and systematically tested, but Paris and its surroundings are the regions that have developed the best since Wednesday. The film, this Monday, had 85,000 participants, the same as last Thursday, except that there are no more vacation spots and Paris gained 66% and the periphery 35%.

Based on these first numbers, what final score do you think you can achieve?

Today it is impossible to know where the film will go. We should finish the week with around 1.1 million on less than 500 screens, like The First Name which ended with 3.4 million and Le diner de cons which reached 9.2 million. The release periods were different, the eras too, the range is very wide, the truth between the two, but the success is already there.

Un P’tit truc en plus is a film for all audiences, recommended for ages 8+ and a must see in cinemas now.
