Actor could be suspended or even expelled from the organization after assaulting Chris Rock
On Wednesday night, the Academy opened a “disciplinary case” against Will Smith, after the actor slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars. In an official statement, the organization revealed that the “King Richard” star refused to leave the event following requests from the Academy.

“The Board of Governors today initiated disciplinary proceedings against Smith for violations of the Academy’s standards of conduct, which include inappropriate physical contact, abusive or threatening behavior, and compromising the integrity of the Academy,” the official statement first reads. Hollywood Reporter.
So far, the Academy has not revealed what Will Smith’s punishment will be, but he could be suspended or even expelled from the Oscars organization. However, first, he will have the right to defend himself to the council.
“At the next board meeting, scheduled for April 18, the Academy may take any disciplinary action, which may include suspension, expulsion or other sanctions permitted by statutes and standards of conduct,” they stated. “Things have unfolded in a way that we could not have predicted. Will Smith was asked to leave the ceremony and declined. We also recognize that we could have handled the situation differently,” the statement concluded.
