Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis owe him a lot: Will this action legend return to cinema?

Will John McTiernan, the director of Crystal Trap, Predator, A Day in Hell or Last Action Hero direct a new film? After a 20-year absence, the director says he still has suggestions.

Basic, his last feature film, was released in May 2003. The director then became persona non grata in Hollywood after being sentenced to a year in prison in 2012.

The man, nicknamed Mack, illegally wiretapped Rollerball producer Charles Roven, with whom he had many disagreements over the making of the film.

Are you planning to return?

Invited to a masterclass at the 2022 BIFFF (Brussels Fantastic Film Festival), the 73-year-old director revealed that he had two projects planned.

The first one is called Tau Ceti Foxtrot, sort of “On Another Planet for a Handful of Dollars”According to McTiernan. The story tells about a group of ruthless rebels. They set out to eliminate oligarchs and armed groups terrorizing a war-torn planet in the distant Tau-cet solar system.

According to journalist Sandra Benedetti, “Finishing the script for a while and the design is great”– he said on Twitter and published a very tempting visual.

The script is on several levels of reading, clever, mysterious, feverish, thrilling, and it’s a blast. The ending is awesome. McTiernan at his best. And that’s all I’m authorized to say and show about it. McT wants to keep. His film is a secret until it’s made.”– confides the journalist.

One project can hide another!

The director of Die Hard is not going to stop there! He has a second project: Ghost In The Machine. “John McTiernan is in Paris refining the script for Ghost In The Machine with his French co-writer. It’s done, it’s really polishing the goldsmithing they’re doing”reveals Sandra Benedetti on her Twitter.

The latter also posted a drawing of McT himself, which depicts his vision for this film, reminiscent of the atmosphere of Mad Max Fury Road.

There are many projects, but…

The king of action movies in the 1980s and 1990s, will John McTiernan finally return after more than 20 years of crossing the desert?

Recently, the filmmaker spoke to the Finnish media, Helsingin Sanomat (broadcast The real world). He noted that he still had many project proposals, but “none of them are good films. He confirms that he is working on several scripts and says that he hopes to make another “Until Death” film.

He adds: “I continued to write and believe that I had the strength. I’m as stupid as I was when I was 19“, he says.
