‘The Boys’ has failed Hughie with this scene from ‘Herogasm’

They have been a bit rushed though.

    Spoilers for ‘The Boys’ below.

Between the sucking octopus and Maternal Milk (Laz Alonso) covered in… someone else’s ‘milk’, no one was really thinking about Hughie (Jack Quaid) during ‘The Boys’ ‘Herogasm’ on Amazon Prime Video. Literally no one, and what an absolute shame.

While we got plenty of chances to gawk at her bare butt thanks to her new temporary powers, that’s not the kind of attention we’re talking about. Petit Hughie he had a great moment during ‘Herogasm’, possibly the most important moment for his character since the debut of the series.

His entire tumultuous journey over the past three seasons has been building toward this moment: a real, honest confrontation with A-Train (Jessie Usher) over the death of his Season 1 girlfriend Robin (Jess Salgueiro), which the superhero was responsible for. The memory of being splattered by Robin’s guts after A-Train blasted through her at lightning speed no doubt still haunts Hughie.. Hell, he’s still after us, so this matchup has been a long time coming.

These and other serious and emotional themes made the ‘good guy’ a little darker. His joining the group ‘The Boys’ was born out of the trauma of Robin’s death and has shaped his decisions ever since. Finally, FINALLY, Hughie, high on the V-component, felt confident enough to tell A-Train what he really thought of him.and yet there he was like a poor fool who was left holding his balls despite his longed-for triumph.

The conversation unfolded like a scene Hughie has surely imagined countless times: A-Train is shown to be full of remorse after his own brush with the injustices of the knew, after seeing how Blue Hawk (Nick Wechsler) has left his brother in a wheelchair. For the first time since Robin’s death, A-Train is not insensitive to his own crimes. He does not ignore Hughie or his own guilt for the pain he has caused, but instead feels strong and sincere remorse.

After demanding an apology and receiving it in full, Hughie is evidently disappointed even though his demand has been met with sincere remorse.. It’s not enough for him. Not now. Not anymore.

Years of raging boiling within him, backed by the strength drawn from the time Component V he has injected, fuel Hughie’s vengeance. He realizes that he doesn’t have to humbly accept A-Train’s apology or take it lightly..

Instead now, dressed in a pink silk robe, Hughie punches him. Right on the chin. And, to A-Train’s surprise, the punch lands. Starlight (Erin Moriarty) intervenes before Hughie beats her up (she may have powers of i knewbut it’s still Hughie).

Leaving aside the interruption, this is probably one of the proudest moments Hughie has ever had. And it is something that contradicts one of the first and most defining things that his father taught him. “You can’t do this,” he told his son, devastated by Robin’s death and eager for revenge, “You don’t have a choice in this fight.” Yet here he is, three seasons later, not hiding behind lawyers or other agents to fight for what he wants, but standing up to the killer himself.

It is a momentous moment for the character. It’s an award for justice, it’s pride, but it’s sandwiched between anuses and sweaty bodies as a chorus of moans acts as the soundtrack to their heated argument..

His answer is probably due to the fact that, despite his hunger for revenge, the reality is that nothing can make up for what he lost that fateful day. Therefore, he questions the actions that have brought him up to this point.

It was all worth it? To say nothing of: Where does the character go from here if he is no longer motivated by his quest for justice? Sadly, the full significance of this moment is overshadowed by collections of couples (and in some cases, threesomes) having sex in the background. The scene is inconsequentially caught between Hughie turning down a sexual proposal from a i knew featuring one of the most unique script lines in television history (“Got to give my ass a break”) and the moment when he is teleported by Annie to safety after the fight with A-Train. We are not surprised that they are naked.

It’s a very funny scene that, once again, distracts from the importance of the moment for Hughie. Both A-Train and Hughie convey emotion, creating a tension worthy of their story. It was a perfect scene, full of emotions, in the middle of an orgy. An orgy! A great example of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Like the robe he’s wearing throughout, ‘The Boys’ pokes fun at Hughie’s big moment. The perversions of ‘Herogasm’ appropriately placed in the background and the fight scene with Patriot make Hughie’s victory little more than a secondary topic of conversation. The character has waited a long time for his victory. Perhaps it would have been better to wait an episode or two more to give him the importance he deserved..
