A parade of stereotypes and prejudices, men whistling at women in the street, placing beauty above intelligence and, yet, ultimately sending a very positive message. It is true Ugly Betty It presents all this while making a social criticism, but the format chosen in 1999 might be strange to today’s young people of Generation Z.
In any case, the fact is that we are talking about one of the biggest successes of global TV. Ugly Betty It is considered by Guinness World Records to be the most successful soap opera in history, as it has been broadcast in more than 100 countries and dubbed into more than 15 languages.
Here in Brazil it broke out in 2002, when it was broadcast on RedeTV. And it’s impossible to forget this opening here:
Yes, I watched it and loved it, as did millions of people around the world. Hence the enthusiasm aroused by the announcement of Amazon Prime Video. This Wednesday (8), the streaming platform released the trailer and release date of the sequel to the Colombian series.
As you can see, the commercial repeats the opening of the original soap opera, with the same set of cameras. Ugly Betty – The story continues debuts July 19th.
Same cast, 20 years later

What we know about the story
After going through many problems in the original soap opera, Beatriz Pinzón Solano, known as Betty, has become a successful businesswoman 20 years later. She remains married to the man she fell in love with and now she has a daughter.
The plot will deal precisely with this family relationship. Betty is a person like us and she faces problems at home and at work, with the aggravating circumstance of having a teenage daughter, with whom she is not close.
Prime has not yet released the number of episodes.
The original novel is available in full on the platform. There are 335 chapters (it’s a big soap opera), but it’s worth watching.
