‘ER’, Michael Crichton’s essential series, premieres on HBO Max

One of the most important and highly acclaimed medical dramas in history, ‘ER’ comes to HBO Max. Created by bestselling author Michael Crichton (‘Jurassic Park’) and produced by Peabody, Humanitas and Emmy award winner John Wells (‘The West Wing of the White House’) and Emmy winner Christopher Chulack (‘Turning guard’), became the most nominated series in history for the Emmy Awards, with a total of 124 nominations, winning 23 of those awards among which was the award for best dramatic series in 1996. In all, ‘ER’ won 116 awards, including the prestigious Peabody Award and four Screen Actors Guild Awards for best ensemble in a dramatic series.

Michael Crichton, author, director and producer, had studied medicine in the late 1960s, entering Boston General Hospital as a student in 1969. During his fourth year of study, in 1970, he made a documentary about five patients, adding observations and Boston hospital emergency room experiences. In 1974, already a doctor, he wrote the script for a movie about an emergency room that he completed the same year, offering his script in the following years to several television studios, being rejected as it was alleged that it needed a lot of improvements. .

‘ER’ explores the inner workings of an urban teaching hospital and the serious problems facing doctors and staff of its overloaded emergency service. These medical professionals are determined to save lives in a place where nothing is taken for granted and nothing is certain… nothing except that very soon another desperate person in need of their help will be rushing through the ER door.

Broadcast on NBC between 1994 and 2009, it was also the longest-running medical series until ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ snatched the spot.
