All 15 seasons of the series, the most nominated in Emmy history, will arrive on HBO Max in full and in high definition on July 17.
One of the most important and highly acclaimed medical dramas in history, ‘ER’ comes to HBO Max. Created by bestselling author Michael Crichton (‘Jurassic Park’) and produced by Peabody, Humanitas and Emmy award winner John Wells (‘The West Wing of the White House’) and Emmy winner Christopher Chulack (‘Turning guard’), became the most nominated series in history for the Emmy Awards, with a total of 124 nominations, winning 23 of those awards among which was the award for best dramatic series in 1996. In all, ‘ER’ won 116 awards, including the prestigious Peabody Award and four Screen Actors Guild Awards for best ensemble in a dramatic series.
‘ER’ will arrive on HBO Max in full and in high definition on July 17 and it will become part, of course, of our list with the best series on HBO Max.
Michael Crichton, author, director and producer, had studied medicine in the late 1960s, entering Boston General Hospital as a student in 1969. During his fourth year of study, in 1970, he made a documentary about five patients, adding observations and Boston hospital emergency room experiences. In 1974, already a doctor, he wrote the script for a movie about an emergency room that he completed the same year, offering his script in the following years to several television studios, being rejected as it was alleged that it needed a lot of improvements. .
‘ER’ explores the inner workings of an urban teaching hospital and the serious problems facing doctors and staff of its overloaded emergency service. These medical professionals are determined to save lives in a place where nothing is taken for granted and nothing is certain… nothing except that very soon another desperate person in need of their help will be rushing through the ER door.
Broadcast on NBC between 1994 and 2009, it was also the longest-running medical series until ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ snatched the spot. Also, launched George Clooney’s career and featured in its cast Anthony Edwards, George Clooney, Noah Wyle, Julianna Margulies, Gloria Reuben, Laura Innes, Maria Bello, Alex Kingston, Eriq La Salle and Sherry Stringfield.
“When I first started in television, I took any job that came along. It was like, ‘Let’s get a job, any job.’ I fought to get ‘ER’ and I got it and it changed my life,” recalls Clooney. “If I hadn’t been given the ten o’clock slot on Thursday night in ‘ER,’ if we had been put on Friday night, I wouldn’t have a movie career. That’s luck, not my own genius, although I like to think it was. Then when I started making movies, the same thing happened. At first, I did whatever I could get. But I learned. In television, I learned to focus on the script but I didn’t apply that lesson to film. But the cliché It’s true: you can take a good script and make a bad movie. But you can’t take a bad script and make a good movie.” We review the 10 best films of George Clooney as an actor.
