Learn how to access the contact bin on your phone or tablet to permanently delete or recover phone numbers you’ve deleted

The contact bin is found within apps that manage phone numbers on cell phones and tablets. When you log in, you can view the deleted information to recover or permanently delete it. However, in some cases, you need to use the web version of the platforms to verify or restore the removed data.



How to access the contacts bin

There are several ways to access the contacts bin, with differences in the procedures for Android and iPhone.

On Android

  1. Open the Contacts app;
  2. Access the side menu;
  3. Tap “Trash.”

On the iPhone

A Apple It doesn’t offer a contact bin, unlike the Google and Samsung apps. However, if you sync data with iCloud and accidentally deleted information and want to recover it, simply use the data recovery tool.

When you use the feature, iCloud will show some available backup options, used to replace contacts on your devices with older versions. The current data will be archived so that it can be retrieved if necessary.

Here’s how to use the tool:

  1. Sign in to the web version of iCloud (icloud.com);
  2. Do Login with your email and password;
  3. Click on “Data Recovery” at the bottom of the page;

  6. Confirm with “Restore”;
  7. Wait for the process to complete.

If the process still doesn’t show the deleted contact or you want to undo the change, simply repeat the process with the desired file.

I use Gmail on my iPhone. Can I recover a deleted contact?

Yes. If you sync your iPhone or iPad contacts with Gmail, when you delete the information, it will be sent to Google’s trash. However, to verify the deleted data, you need to access the web version of the platform:

  1. Access Google Contacts on PC (contacts.google.com);
  2. Click “Trash”.
