Rivals: understand the relationship between the t-shirt worn by Zendaya and JFK’s son

Printed with ‘I told ya’, the t-shirt worn by Zendaya and Josh O’Connor’s characters in ‘Rivals’ references John F. Kennedy Jr.

A basic T-shirt reading “I told ya” appeared on a red carpet and in the latest film directed by Luca Guadagnino, Rivals. He had the help of the designer Jonathan Andersona longtime friend, to dress the characters Tashi Duncan (Zendaya)Art Donaldson (Mike Faist) and Patrick Zweig (Josh O’Connor).

“In Rivals, the pace is intense, and so are the characters. As an audience, you’re never sure who to support. And clothes are an instrument of that”, he pointed out. Anderson in an interview with Women’s Wear Daily.

Worn by Patrick and later by Tashi, the t-shirt with a simple phrase references John F. Kennedy Jr.known as John John. The son of the former president of the United States was seen several times wearing a very similar piece for routine activities, such as walking the dog.

The sentence that prints the clothing refers to the buttons displayed by supporters of JFK in the 1960 elections, when he was elected. “I told you so” was like a slogan for voters.

“When JFK Jr. When he was younger, in the 1980s and 1990s, there was a kind of carefreeness about his wardrobe — like he could wear anything, and the sex appeal would always be there,” the designer explained.

“I felt that [Patrick] shouldn’t care about his appearance because ultimately he’s not sponsored, he’s not the biggest tennis star, so his look becomes a bit improvised and put together. But when you look at the basic parts of his costume, he has very old and expensive things, including an old wallet that is still very expensive even though it is falling apart,” he added. Anderson.
