‘They said no to a billion dollars’: This Wonder Woman star doesn’t understand DC’s decision

Wonder Woman 3 will never see the light of day

Gal Gadot made her debut as Amazon Princess Diana of Themyscira Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice by Zack Snyder in 2016. This appearance marked the first time Wonder Woman was depicted in a major motion picture, introducing the character into the larger DC Universe. With this introduction, Wonder Woman got her first solo film in 2017, directed by Patty Jenkins.

This origin story was a huge success at the box office, with more than $800 million in revenue. After this success, a sequel entitled Wonder Woman 1984 had begun, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was deprived of theatrical release in much of the world (including France). The feature film only grossed $169 million at the box office.

And despite Gal Gadot’s first reassuring statements, Wonder Woman 3, didn’t get the green light from DC. This is explained in particular by the total overhaul of DC Films after the departure of Zack Snyderand the arrival of James Gunn and Peter Safran at the head of the DC division of Warner Bros. Discovery who want to breathe new life and say goodbye to the old glories of DC.

Chris Pine doesn’t understand and speaks out

In a recent interview given to BusinessInsiderconfided Chris Pine, who plays the role of Steve Trevor in the first two films not having understood the DC’s decision on not greenlighting the third Wonder Woman movie:

I’m amazed they said no to a billion dollar franchise to change direction,” Pine said before adding: “I don’t know why they made that decision. It’s beyond me, but Wonder Woman is an amazing character. Patty is a really thoughtful director.

If the saga had not reached the billion dollar mark as he himself claims, he would certainly have reached this symbolic threshold with a third film.
