It’s one of Netflix’s most popular series and is finally coming back for a third season, following the huge success of its Queen Charlotte-centric spin-off. The Bridgerton Chronicles series returns for a new romantic adventure in high society London during Regency England in the 19th century.
The third round of episodes of the series, created by Shonda Rhimes and adapted from the book series of the same name by Julia Quinn, focuses on one of the favorite couples of readers – Penelope Fetherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton). Did they manage to do better than their predecessors?
Is it worth watching the third season of “Bridgerton”?
Season after season, The Bridgerton Chronicles (and its spin-off Queen Charlotte ) managed to outdo themselves with highlight pairings. If Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dinevoor) and Simon Bassett (Regé-Jean Page) set the bar in the first episodes of the series Shonda RhimesThe following couples created as much, if not more, sensation in the public.
But after three seasons, the recipe seems to be running in circles a bit, especially in terms of storytelling. Indeed, Bridgerton’s first three novels fit into a very specific trope: a story for “stranger lovers” and even a “from enemies to lovers” story for Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simon Ashley).
This time, changing the narrative of Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Fetherington (Nicola Coughlan), one of the favorite couples of readers of Julia Quinn novels, who are at the center of the third round of episodes: Society follows the “friends to lovers” romance, that is, friends who become lovers, which It implies a completely different, but no less pleasant narrative.
Because this third season of Bridgerton is the culmination of two other seasons of waiting, with Penelope, aka Lady Whistledown, searching for the one she always loved, but for whom she gave up her steadfast friendship.
A little taste of teenage romance
In these new episodes of Bridgerton, Penelope, more alone than ever after her best friend Eloise (Claudia Jessie) discovers her secret identity, decides to find a husband. She then goes through the makeup case and says goodbye to the little girl’s curls, her hair now loose. “I’m not a girl, I’m not a woman yet” Britney Spears sang it, and it’s the new mantra of Penelope Fetherington, the high society girl next door.
Despite the controversy over the start, Penelope will be able to rely on her lifelong friend Colin Bridgerton, who has become a summer playboy and the most popular young bachelor of the season, to find her a match. The young man even goes so far as to teach her flirting lessons, but these secret lessons bring them even closer.

And Colin finally realizes that he also has feelings for his best friend and that they are meant for each other. Colin and Penelope’s romance isn’t a surprise (and therefore not a spoiler) to anyone for a long time, but they’ll obviously have plenty of obstacles in their way, such as the suitor Lord Doubling (Sam Phillips), their worst enemy. Cressida (Jessica Madsen) and former best friend Eloise.
The dynamic between Colin and Penelope works perfectly – obviously thanks to the cast and their alchemy – but also a very teenage vibe. Between misunderstandings, unsaid things, lingering glances, sexual tension, first kisses and exciting dreams, the story between Colin and Penelope is as passionate as all first emotions.
Their romance, hosted by showrunner Jess Brownell, screenwriter of the Scandal and Anne’s Invention series, takes on the codes of coming-of-age stories and budding tales of blossoming young girls that we might read in Jane Austen or see in popular teen movies inspired by the 2000s. with literature.
There is no doubt that the third season of The Bridgerton Chronicles will be the one that the public (young and old) will be able to identify with the most. It’s kind of a young adult novel, a little clumsy, but fun and refreshing with just the right dose of spice.

Because Bridgerton is Bridgerton, and the sensual scenes are still very relevant, even if they are less in the first part of season 3. They are served for the first time by Kate and Anthony, who make a great couple; Colin is then tasked with looking at his performances in the bedroom before finally slowly approaching Penelope’s intimacy.
This first episode of Bridgerton Season 3 is just a taste of what Colin and Penelope’s love story will look like at its fullest potential. This crescendo of tension makes splitting Season 3 into 2 parts very disappointing, both for the romance and the side effects of high society, where gossip, betrayal, other love stories and the search for Lady Whistledown are well underway.
We’ll have to wait until June 16 to find out the second part (also four episodes) and thus make full sense of the third season of Bridgerton, which promises to be the most romantic and drunkest episodes of the Netflix series.
