After the success of John Wick 4 and its $440 million worldwide box office, the franchise will continue to expand into cinema! We’ve already hosted a spin-off series, The Continental, which aired on Prime Video.
On June 4, 2025, a man nicknamed Baba Yaga will return to theaters in Ballerina, a spin-off with Anna de Arma as the ruthless killer. According to Deadline, another feature film based on the saga is being made soon. This time, the story will focus on Kane, the blind fighter character present in John Wick 4 played by Donnie Yen.
His return to the series was already announced at the end of the film, in the post-credits sequence. Kane survived the grand final in front of Sacred Heart. The incarnated murderer is then freed and is therefore no longer bound by the laws of the Great Table.
A strong fighter
Therefore, the fighter can finally see his daughter without risking her life; So, still in Paris, near the Opéra Garnier, he prepares to see her while she plays music in front of the building. But this was without considering Akira (Rina Sawayama), who has not forgotten the promise Kane made before killing his father (Hiroyuki Sanada) in Japan.
The new film will continue Ian’s story after the events of John Wick 4.
The latter pulls out a cutting blade, and the former assassin turns his head and senses danger. John Wick 4 left us there, Kane’s fate hanging in the balance. Thus, the spin-off will continue to explore this narrative, as Lionsgate confirms: “The new film will continue Ian’s story after the events of John Wick 4, as Kane is freed from his obligations to the Great Table.”
It will be written by Robert Askins (The Umbrella Academy) and produced by Chad Stahelski, creator of John Wick. The director of the project has not yet been announced. For its part, Lionsgate Studios is excited to launch this spin-off with one of the biggest martial arts stars in cinema.

The 60-year-old actor is still in great shape, capable of extraordinary sports. The latter recently shone in part 4 of the Ip Man saga and showed off his fighting skills in Sakra, which hit theaters on May 10, 2023.
Additionally, Donnie Yen has been a regular in American blockbusters for over 20 years. We could see him in xXx Reactivated, Highlander Endgame, Blade 2 or Star Wars Rogue One. The John Wick spin-off is expected to begin filming in Hong Kong next year.
The release date has not yet been revealed. As for John Wick 5, it’s currently on hold while he waits for Chad Stahelski’s Highlander project with Henry Cavill to finish.
