Tuchel confirms departure from Bayern Munich

Thomas Tuchel confirmed on Friday that he will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season after failing to reach an agreement with the club to continue as manager.

Tuchel took over in March last year and led the team to the Bundesliga title last season, but Bayern will finish the current season without a trophy for the first time in more than a decade.

Bayern officials informed Tuchel in February that he would not remain with the team during the final year of his contract and would leave at the end of the season.

But after several potential successors, including Julian Nagelsmann, Ralf Rangnick and Xabi Alonso, decided to stay in their current jobs, Bayern approached Tuchel to discuss the possibility of him remaining at the club.

“This is the last press conference here. The February decision remains,” Tuchel said. “There were further conversations with the club last week, but we could not reach an agreement on the continuation of cooperation, so we stand by the February decision.”

“We haven’t reached an agreement, but I won’t go into the individual points. Everything happens behind closed doors.”

The Bavarians, who will face Hoffenheim on Saturday in the last match of the season, are fighting to maintain second place in the standings and are two points ahead of Stuttgart.
