Rating 4.2 out of 5: One of the biggest movie hits of all time comes to Disney+

It’s one of the best movies of 2022 and it’s coming to streaming. Rated 4.2 by AlloCiné audiences, the feature film is collecting some great records: With $2.320 billion collected at the worldwide box office, it is the biggest movie success of 2022.

But the film, which is considered by the American Film Institute as one of the ten best movies of 2022, is also the third biggest success at the global box office. And it’s a sequel to the biggest hit of all time at the global box office!

And we have these global hits for James Cameron, known for Titanic, The Terminator, Aliens, The Return and The Abyss. But from 2022, the director can continue his great revolutionary sci-fi franchise with Avatar: The Way of Water, the sequel to Avatar.

A sequel that took a long time to see the light of day

Thirteen years after the first Avatar, James Cameron finally continues the saga with the second installment of Avatar: The Waterway. Set more than ten years after the events of the first film, this sequel tells the story of Sally’s family (Jake, Neytiri and their children).

The film explores the trials they face, the paths they must take to protect each other, the battles they must fight to stay alive and the tragedies they endure.

The main cast of the first installment reprized their roles, including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Dileep Rao and Matt Gerald.

Sigourney Weaver, on the other hand, returns in a different role. New actors also joined the cast, including Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco and Jemaine Clement.

Although James Cameron quickly announced that he wanted to make a sequel to Avatar, it took the director more than ten years to make them. And for the simple but compelling reason, it was necessary to develop a new technology to film scenes underwater that had never been achieved before.

After three years of filming on a budget of more than $400 million, Avatar: The Last Airbender finally hit theaters to great success. The Avatar franchise is far from over, as three sequels are in the works, with a third film slated for release in December 2025.

While you wait for the Avatar sequel to hit theaters, you can catch Avatar: The Way of Water on Disney+ if you missed it.
