Sixth movie for giant monsters? The saga has already grossed over $2 billion at the box office!

Earlier this year, Godzilla x Kong: The New Kingdom pulled off a surprise box office hit – achieving the second-biggest start of 2024 behind Dune: Part II in the US – proving that Legendary Pictures’ MonsterVerse was alive and well! This was the fifth part of the saga, and it seems that it will not be the last.

Indeed, after Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla 2 – King of the Monsters (2019), Godzilla vs Kong (2021) and Godzilla x Kong: The New Kingdom Therefore, Legendary Pictures is already preparing a Godzilla x Kong 2. After all, the saga has already brought in a lot of revenue: more than $2 billion at the worldwide box office, why stop?

The manager of the company has already mentioned the possibility of continuation.

This is certainly an interesting resultMary Parent, president of worldwide production for Legendary, told The Hollywood Reporter. “We’re in a good position to continue the journey, but let’s see how Godzilla x Kong goes. It’s just the beginning, but we sure feel good.

And according to The Hollywood Reporter, even a screenwriter has apparently already been chosen in the form of Dave Callahan, to whom we owe the script for Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. He has indeed been asked to write the next MonsterVerse movie, though we don’t know much more at this time.

On the production side, Adam Wingard has yet to make a decision to return, although the legend wants him back, according to THR. Wingard is still considering his next film, Onslaught, for independent studio A24 before deciding what his next film will be.
