Iranian state TV released images showing President Ebrahim Raisi and his entourage inside the helicopter before it crashed. This was reported by the Irna news agency.

This Sunday, the 19th, the plane with President Raisi on board suffered a plane crash due to adverse weather conditions. Raisi was returning from an official trip to Azerbaijan, where he had participated together with President Ilham Aliyev in the inauguration of a dam.

According to the IRNA news agency, the helicopter crashed in the region between the cities of Varzaqan and Jolfa in East Azerbaijan province. The agency initially announced the identification of the exact location of the accident on social media, but then deleted the publication.

Iran’s Ministry of Information and Communications Technology has limited the search area to a 2km radius, while around 40 rescue teams are carrying out search operations in the region.

According to the account of a local military commander, Iranian rescuers have found the exact spot where the helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi crashed.

The commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in East Azerbaijan province, where the crash occurred, said a signal was detected from both the helicopter and the cellphone of one of the crew members.

“Military forces are heading to the scene and hope to have good news,” the commander said, according to IRNA.
