What many may not know is that the character in question does not exist in the book ‘Seducing Mr. Bridgerton,” on which the series is based, but that Netflix created him.

Why did Netflix invent the character of Lord Debling? Not in the “Bridgerton” books.
According to “Brigerton” showrunner Jess Brownell to “Variety,” the decision to introduce Lord Debling in season three was deliberate. After seeing Lady Whistledown’s author, played by Nicola Coughlan, in the shadows for two seasons, the production team felt it was time to “show some interest from somebody”. Lord Dembling was created to fulfill this role.
Additionally, the presence of the environmentalist serves as a catalyst for Colin Bridgerton. While Penelope’s crush had already started noticing his feelings for her before Debling showed up, her arrival forces him to act faster.
Who is the actor who plays Lord Dembling in the series ‘Bridgerton’?
Sam Phillips is the actor responsible for bringing to life Penelope’s nature lover, vegetarian and suitor in the third season of ‘Bridgerton’.
The performer, who has caught the attention of the public, has previously worked in series such as ‘Doctors’, ‘Granchester’ and ‘The Crown’, showing off his skill and versatility.
“Bridgerton” casting director Kelly Valentine Hendry spoke about casting Sam Phillips as Lord Debling to the “Shondaland” website. He said they were looking to add someone to the cast who “felt a little bit different, but who would work in that world.”
Furthermore, they saw him as “an actor that Colin Bridgerton could look across a crowded room and see Penelope with this guy and think, ‘Yeah, he’s a threat to me.’
