There is no hope of postponing the elections in the RS, says the president of the TSE

The president of the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE), Minister Alexandre de Moraes, said on Tuesday that the electoral tribunal is not currently considering the possibility of postponing the October municipal elections in Rio Grande do Sul, following the climate disaster that hit the State.

Moraes expressed solidarity with the population of the state, affected by heavy rains and floods which have affected more than 2.3 million people and have already caused the death of 161 people. You stated that you have maintained contact with local electoral bodies to assess the situation.

“I want to underline that there is no prediction, nor any discussion on a possible postponement of the elections in the RS,” the TSE president said as he opened the session on Tuesday evening.

Again according to the minister, the Electoral Tribunal will evaluate the number of ballot boxes that may have suffered damage.

“The electoral calendar remains valid for all of Brazil,” Moraes said.

“The elections will take place normally, as happens throughout Brazil.”
