New on Prime Video: It’s one of the most faithful biopics ever made and it’s now available

This was the biopic we were missing. Although Hollywood is currently devoting itself to a film about the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, the audience could discover a film about Whitney Houston in 2022.

I Wanna Dance with Somebody is an uncompromising portrait of a complex woman, nicknamed The Voice. From her beginnings as a chorus girl in New Jersey to her status as one of the most awarded and celebrated artists of all time, the film chronicles Whitney Houston’s galvanizing, thrilling and deeply moving journey. The most faithful biopic

Naomi Aki, who plays Whitney Houston, worked for a long time to be able to interpret the star. From her speech to her voice to her physical training to mimic the singer’s facial expressions during her performances, Aki has transformed. If we hear his own voice in the first part of the film, it quickly gives way to Huston’s voice as he begins to become a real celebrity.

For the purposes of the film, the director and his teams recreated some of the singer’s performances almost identically, such as when he gave a memorable performance during Super Bowl XXV in 1991 or when he performed his famous medal at the American Music Awards.

“We had the opportunity to stage the most complete biography of Whitney Houston. Producer Matt Jackson explained at the time. To achieve this, the latter was surrounded by former collaborators of the star, as well as certain members of his family – such as his former producer Clive Davis, as well as Gary and Pat Houston (his brother and his sister-in-law):

“We had the opportunity to tell our story authentically. We had access to a lot of documents and personal details that we simply wouldn’t have known about had we made the film without the support of his family.”

Whitney wrote the title “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” for her as an echo of their impossible love story.

So it’s no surprise that the star’s cult hit lent its name to this biopic, which will be discovered on Prime Video today.
