Series exploring the High Republic era promises a different adventure than Star Wars fans are used to

The Acolytenew series from Disney+, arrives at streaming in June with the task of showing, for the first time in live action, an adventure set in the era of the High Republic, which precedes the events of the films in the saga Star Wars. Showing an investigation into the deaths of some Jedi, the series is expected to bring a different story style than what we know with the Knights of the Force.

The new series brings the High Republic era, set approximately 100 years before the events of Star Wars – Episode I: The Phantom Menace. This period is when the Jedi were still at the height of their power, both as a police force in the galaxy and politically, although this began to come under threat around the same time.

What is the story of the Acolyte?

The Acolyte tells the story of an investigation to find out who is responsible for the deaths of Jedi across the galaxy. These crimes eventually bring Jedi Master Sol face to face with his former padawan, Mae, who abandoned the Order and became the prime suspect in the deaths.

However, sinister forces come into play, proving that there is much more behind the attacks than the Jedi Order could have imagined. It is worth mentioning that during this era the Sith remained in hiding, planning their return, which would only occur more than 100 years later, with Darth Sidious’ plans against the Jedi.

Is the series connected to any films?

Since it takes place about 100 years before Episode 1the events of The Acolyte they are independent from the Saga films Star Wars, but not by other media. This is because Lucasfilm has started a line of books and comics about the High Republic era, the same one in which the series is set.

In several interviews, series creator Leslye Headland (Russian doll) revealed that of the characters already introduced in the books, only Jedi Vernestra Woh makes her live action debut The Acolyte. According to Headland, this was a choice with the future in mind, since, if the series has new seasons, it will be able to explore other characters from the books.

The series is set several years after Vernestra’s last appearance in the books, now a Jedi master away from battle, working in training and on the more political side of the Order.

The cast of The Acolyte brings some familiar names to fans of popular streaming dramas and series. The first name is that of Emmy winner Lee Jung-jae from Round 6who plays the Jedi Master Sol. At his side, Amanda Stenberg, who became known to the public for the role of Rue in Hunger Games and that was Spider-Byte’s voice Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verseis Mae, Sol’s former padawan.

The cast also includes names such as Charlie Barnett (Russian doll) as Jedi Knight Yord Fandar and Dafne Keen (Logan) in the role of Jecki Lon, Master Sol’s new padawan. Rebecca Henderson (.GTA5) as Vernestra Rwoh and Carrie-Anne Moss (Matrix Resurrections) as Jedi Master Indara.

When does The Acolyte debut?

The Acolyte Its premiere is scheduled for June 4, arriving on Disney+ with the first two episodes. Thereafter, the series, which will have eight episodes, is expected to be released weekly.
