Once upon a time, talk show host Wendy Williams and reality TV star NeNe Leakes were really good friends. They also made guest appearances on their respective shows, most notably Williams’ now defunct namesake on daytime TV and the former Leakes broadcast house, The Real housewives from Atlanta. However, the two have very different professional situations today and that’s not the only thing that has changed. Their friendship is over too, thanks to a rather savage fight. According to Leakes, the fight would see her lose an entire TV series that was also in the works.
Why would the friendship between Wendy Williams and NeNe Leakes end?
The bad blood between the two celebrities appears to date back to a 2014 incident involving an expensive Birkin bag. NeNe Leakes jumped at the growing trend of “defacing” the bag (ie, painting it with graffiti). The end result is still alive in her. instagram, and one of the scribbled sentences was apparently a shot at Wendy Williams. We’ll talk about it in a second. Check out the post here:

As compared to page 6 At the time, the presenter made a sad comment on her talk show that her so-called friend couldn’t afford to deface such an expensive item. The real housewives The star later responded by saying she was “the lowest of the lowest” for “spitting hate”. She also interestingly pointed out that the talk on the streets that Williams’s then-husband “slept” with may have played into the guest comment (the bag mentions “married men” leg closure), but the reality star was sure the business rumors weren’t true.
However, to make matters worse, NeNe Leakes, 54, mentioned how she was in early conversations with Debmar-Mercury, the production company behind The Wendy Williams show, to direct his talk show with Tom Arnold. I mean, I wrote about Williams: “You’re afraid he’ll take your place (I know you heard! Ummhmm win wink) YOU ARE SCARED!”
NeNe Leakes explains how she lost her television role
The perceived jubilation was believed to be the real reason why the NeNe Leakes-led show never materialized. After all, with Wendy Williams having been Debmar-Mercury’s biggest source of money in years, throwing darts at her didn’t seem wise. However, Leakes believes it was one of her more innocent returns to past Birkin bags that was the final nail in the coffin for his potential project. She said page 6 Recently:
I responded by saying something like “Now Wendell, I have four Birkin bags and I can do the same”. Wendy didn’t like it. Debmar-Mercury canceled the contract and cut all communications with me. Our agreement was dead.
For his part, Tom Arnold has attested the plug that Debmar-Mercury wanted her and NeNe Leakes to make an effort to air in the timeslot right after The Wendy Williams show. But in the wake of the stock market debacle, the plans suddenly failed. Arnold, former star of rosannaHe reportedly spoke to a Debmar-Mercury producer about the reason for the decision, who told him:
He called me and said: ‘I have bad news. We can’t do the show. And I said: ‘Why?’ And she said, “Because NeNe made fun of Wendy Williams’ bag.” And I said, ‘Who would care if someone laughed at their purse?’ And the producer said, “Black women worry.” He explained that it was something very personal. It was a big deal. He said, “Wendy’s got the number one show.” What if Roseanne? [Barr was put in the same position]? ‘ I said, ‘Yeah, I guess he’d probably be upset if someone said something about his bag.’
has continued RHOA alum didn’t regret her version of the situation, but she also thought that Wendy Williams might feel “competitive” with her former best friend. Tom Arnold thinks it’s somehow understandable that the series is being stopped as a result because “the best way to get rid of your competitors is to fire them.” However, Arnold is still “absolutely” willing to implement the original idea for the TV show with his former collaborator if he gets the chance again.
What are the latest controversies for Wendy Williams and NeNe Leakes?
Ironically, Wendy Williams has obviously lost her TV show in the years since the first reported fight. Debmar-Mercury extinguished The Wendy Williams show in February, after months of guest guests replacing the namesake while battling persistent health problems. The company also decided to replace Sherri Shepherd, 57, in the same time slot for its self-titled talk show (slated for release later this year on the 2022 TV show). The changing of the guard, to only include Williams in the final episode via a tribute video, was considered in bad shape by her now ex-husband.
The other irony at play here is that NeNe Leakes still has controversial issues with her ex friend and her networks to this day. After the appearance of the former presenter on See what’s happening live in 2020, where he once again cast a shadow over Leakes’ finances, the formerreal housewives The star had his own words, but above all he accused Bravo Network and Cohen himself of being racist. The drama seemed to fade for a while, with Leakes hinting that she was interested in getting back together. RHOA for another season. But in another sudden turn of events, she decided to sue Bravo and others in April for allegedly discriminatory practices during her time in the reality series. (For starters, she herself faces multiple allegations of relationships with married men, this time in a lawsuit filed by her current boyfriend’s wife.)
Bravo’s lawsuit may see a solution sooner rather than later, according to some reports. However, it doesn’t look like the feud between NeNe Leakes and Wendy Williams will be resolved that easily or anytime soon.
