Palme Dog: One year after Autumn Anatomy, Cannes 2024’s top dog is still French!

Among the films in the Cannes selection, the award for “Best Dog Act”: The Palm Dog, which seemed like a pleasant joke when it was created in 2001, has since become a must-see at the Cannes Film Festival. To the point where “cinema dogs” now fuel discussions among festival-goers almost as much as projections around the Palm. Four-legged winners will become stars like Messi (Fall Anatomy), Brandi (Once Upon a Time in…Hollywood) or Ugly (The Artist).

Code after Mass!

A year later the must-have border collie Messy, aka Snoop in Anatomy of a Fall, Palme Dog has released a new French dog. In this case Cody, a gryphon cross who (geniusly) plays Cosmos in Letitia Dosh’s Dog Court. Given the title, he was rightly one of the big favorites even before the start of the fortnight, as was Sin, a Jack Russell greyhound cross by Black Dog, who took this Palme Dog Jury Grand Prix 2024.

What is a “dog trial”?

Presented as part of the Un Certain Regard section, Dog Trial is the first feature film directed by him Laetitia Dosch. The Franco-Swiss actor delivers here an unclassifiable gem, an absurd and unusual fantasy, as well as dark and disturbing, in which, as a lawyer, he is responsible for protecting a dog that was threatened with euthanasia after biting a young woman. With the help of an animal owner (Francois Damien) and a dog behaviorist (Jean-Pascal Zad), he will do everything to win this incredible case that will divide society.

The trial of the dog is scheduled to be shown on French screens on September 11.
