Beetlejuice 2: Why did Monica Bellucci lose her finger in the sequel?

Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Kathryn O’Hara, Willem Dafoe and Monica Bellucci: all of them appeared yesterday in the new Beetlejuice Beetlejuice trailer, which, in addition to giving us some hints about the film’s plot. , also revealed their new look.

And eagle-eyed Internet users did not miss one detail: Monica Bellucciwho plays Beetlejuice’s wife (whom he’s clearly trying to escape) is missing a finger!

His appearance, which seems to be a mix of Sally and the bride’s “funeral”, already says a lot about the character, and the loss of his ring finger…

Remember, this is the finger Beetlejuice gave Lydia’s wedding ring to (Winona Ryder) in the original movie, as you can see in the next post.

In this new opus, after a terrible tragedy, the Dietz family returns to Winter River. Still haunted by the memory of Betlejus, Lydia finds her life turned upside down when her daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega), a rebellious teenager, accidentally opens a portal that leads to the afterlife. With both worlds in chaos, it’s only a matter of time before someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and this prankster demon returns to wreak havoc…

Other notes on the original film

And that’s not the only detail reminiscent of the original 1988 film.

First up is the title, which instead of “Beetlejuice 2” is “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” A wink that fans will understand: To summon a ghost, you have to say its name three times… The tweet introducing the poster also asked fans: “Do you dare to do it again?

Then there is the slogan “The wait is almost over”: The numbered strip indicating the film’s release date that Beetlejuice is holding is a direct reference to the end of the 1988 film, where the character finds himself in the Afterlife waiting room with a ticket containing his exit number. His wait will apparently last 36 years, set to end on September 6, 2024, the US release date of the long-awaited feature film.

Finally, there is the cockroach (Beetlejuice means “cockroach juice”), and it is this insect that led Lydia to guess her name in the first opus by the bio-exorcist. We’ll no doubt have our eyes peeled throughout the second installment, details of which we can’t wait to discover.

For that, see you on September 11, 2024, the release date of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice on our French screens. Meanwhile, the first episode is still available on VOD.
