A landslide in Papua New Guinea causes 670 deaths, the UN estimates

This Sunday, 26, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) of the United Nations (UN) estimates that the landslide that hit the village of Yambali, on the slope of a hill in the province of Enga, in Papua New Guinea, in Oceania , may have caused the deaths of approximately 670 people.

The landslide occurred on Friday the 24th. Initially the local authorities had estimated 100 victims.

According to information from ANSA, around 4 thousand people live in the village. In total about 150 houses were buried.

Also this year, in March, more than 20 people died due to a landslide, amid heavy rains and floods.
