YouTube Music tests work similarly to Shazam to identify songs

OR Youtube Music tests with a new tool integrated into the Android app that allows you to recognize songs based on humming, whistling or playing the melody on an instrument. The functionality is similar to the famous app Shazamacquired by Apple in 2018, able to identify songs based on small fragments.



The new feature appears for a small portion of the audience in version 7.02 of YouTube Music for Android. The company has not defined a launch window for the tool for everyone. OR Canaltech You already had access to the feature with the latest app update.

How to identify songs with YouTube Music

To use the YouTube Music song identification function, simply open the application, access the search page and select the new option represented by a wave icon: here’s how to do it:

  1. Open YouTube on Android;
  2. Tap the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner;
  3. Then select the wave icon to activate the function;
  4. Play, sing or hum a song;
  5. Check the audio search results.

You can hum, whistle, or even play the melody on an instrument, like a guitar, to have the app do the searching.

Once you start the search, the application displays a full-screen results page with detailed information about the song, including track name, artist, album, release year and other relevant data.

Recently, YouTube Music also started releasing an update that introduces a new feed with the latest news from your favorite artists of users. Now, an alert icon in the top-right corner of the application brings together information about the versions and posts of followed accounts, making it easier to access these updates that were previously hidden in the “Library” tab.

The new activity feed, which resembles YouTube’s notification field, aims to increase visibility and engagement with the content of the artists you follow. In addition to updates, the feed suggests new artists to follow, based on subscribed accounts. This update will gradually roll out to all YouTube Music users on Android and iOS devices.
