Helinho, with a penalty in the 52nd minute, ensured a 1-1 draw against Coquimbo Unido, in the last round of the group stage
Red Bull Bragantino failed to directly qualify for the round of 16 of the South American Championship. On Tuesday evening (28), the Brazilian team was losing until the 52nd minute of the second half when Helinho, with a penalty, secured the 1-1 draw against Coquimbo Unido, in Chile, in the sixth and final round of Group H.
Andrés Chávez opened the scoring, in the first half, for the Chileans at the Francisco Sánchez Rumoroso stadium, in Coquimbo.
With this result Bragantino reaches 13 points and moves into second place in the group. Thus we go to the playoffs before the round of 16. Racing-ARG, with the victory over Sportivo Luqueño-PAR, reached 15 points and consolidated its lead, thus guaranteeing a direct place in the next phase.
The game
The Brazilian team had little inspiration to set up the game and, with few shots on target, caused little trouble to their opponents in the first half. The hosts, however, risked more when they took the lead. In the 40th minute, Escobar crossed low into the area and Azócar fed Andrés Chávez to fire the ball into the net.
Needing to look for a reaction on the scoreboard, Bragantino moves forward with an intense exchange of passes. However, as they approached the area, the team had difficulty finishing and stumbled upon the mark. Without breaking the Chileans’ last marking line.
As the minutes passed, the Pirates began to attack more frequently, especially in the final stretch. Massa Bruta, however, failed to be effective. Until, in the 50th minute, following a shot from Lincoln, the ball hits Cabrera’s arm. The penalty was awarded after a VAR check, and Helinho left everything the same as the lights went out.
