Director Mike Flanagan, known for The Haunting of Hill House, Fall of the House Usher AND Doctor Sleepwas tapped to direct the second film in the reboot trilogy The exorcistleft without a director after the disaster of his first work, Exorcist: the devotee. According to information from Variety, Flanagan’s hiring is expected to add a “radical new approach” to the production.
The Exorcist is one of the reasons I became a filmmaker, and it’s an honor to have the chance to try something new, bold and terrifying within its universe. Reuniting with my friends at Blumhouse, with whom I made some of my favorite work, makes this even more exciting.
Mike Flanagan at Variety.
The news could be a ray of hope for fans, as the director also has films like Shut up: death listens AND Ouija: origin of evil. Changing Gordon’s idea of a trilogy with the same story, the second film will have a new plot.
However, it is worth mentioning that it is normal for horror film sequels to do poorly, especially those that are as successful and pioneering in the film market as The exorcist.
The film holds the title of highest-grossing horror film of all time, receiving 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. The task for any director who takes charge of the ship will not be easy. Check out reviews of the film here!
