Ronan Cordeiro is a paratriathlon World Cup champion

The paratriathlon World Cup took place on Saturday 1 June in Vigo, Spain. Brazilian Ronan Cordeiro became champion in the men’s PTS5 class. In addition to him, another Brazilian athlete, Jorge Luís Fonseca, also participated in the race.




The competition featured several paratriathlon classes, both men’s and women’s, but Brazil only participated in two men’s categories.

PTS5 MALE CLASS

In the men’s PTS5 class, Ronan Cordeiro won the race with a total time of 1h01min52s. The Brazilian was fastest in the cycling and running phases, recording times of 31 minutes 38 seconds and 17 minutes 3 seconds respectively. Furthermore, he completed the swim in 11 minutes and 12 seconds. Second place went to Irishman Tom Williamson, with a time of 1h03min20, and completing the podium was Frenchman Antônio Besse, with a time of 1h05min48s.

PTS4 MALE CLASS

In the men’s PTS4 class, however, the race was very heated, with only 2 minutes and 10 minutes of difference between first and fourth place. Jorge Luís Fonseca, from Brazil, finished his race in fourth place, reaching a total time of 1h07min53s, just 57 seconds away from third place. The podium of the race was doubled by Spain, with the reigning champion the Spanish Nil Riudavets Victory, who completed the course in a time of 1h05min43s. Second place was taken by the Frenchman Antoîne Lamarche Poulain (1h06min50s), while third place went to the Spanish Alejandro Sánchez Palomero (1h06min56s).
