Rotten Tomatoes is known for being one of the largest sources for movie reviews and ratings on the Internet. At the beginning of May the site published the updated ranking with the 100 best productions of all time.
According to the website, the choice was made based on issues such as critical approval, audience rating and other editorial parameters, resulting in a list with diverse titles, ranging from old classics to new films, horror, comedies , suspense and even animation.
Much more than a simple list, the ranking organizes the films in order from best to “worst”, and the winner, in first place, is Los Angeles – Forbidden City (LA Confidential).
The film is directed by Custis Hanson and was released in 1997, with Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pierce, Kim Bassinger, James Cromwell and Danny Devito in the cast. The story tells how the LAPD helped cover up scandals involving celebrities in the 1950s.
Winner of the Oscar for best adapted screenplay and best supporting actress, the film is an adaptation of a book by James Ellroy. On Rotten Tomatoes it has a 99% approval rating from critics, as well as a 94% approval rating from over 100,000 audience reviews.
For Rotten Tomatoes it wasn’t enough that a film had simply pleased the public and viewers to enter the list: the popularity of the titles was also taken into account, the total number of reviews associated with each of them being important.
The year of consideration of the films was also taken into account. The site explained that editorial review was set aside to refine the final list, including minimum thresholds for each of the data points.
