Christopher McQuarrie, director of the most recent Mission Impossible films, will take control of the project, which is slated to shoot in early January in Los Angeles, according to a service sheet posted on FTIA’s website (Alliance of the Motion Picture and Television Industry).

Tom Cruise or McQuarrie’s names don’t appear on this page, but the project is definitely in the works. At the moment, the two artists are in the middle of filming Mission Impossible 8 and will not talk about these rumors for a while if they are finally confirmed.

While Tom Cruise is expected to play the role of Ben Shockley, played by Clint Eastwood, Scarlett Johansson’s name is floating around as her partner, Gus Malley, played by Sondra Locke in the original film.
