Epic’s latest online game update includes character skins for Homer, Marge, and Flanders — and an all-new Battle Royale map
It’s time for d’oh node Fortnite. Announced today in an official blog post from Epic Gamesthe long-running animated series TheSimpsons is crossover with one of the world’s most popular online multiplayer platforms with a flurry of new character skins, cosmetics, and an all-new 80-player map called Springfield Island in Battle Royale.
The update launches today for the free-to-play online shooter, arriving as part of the paid Battle Pass that gives players access to premium outfits that include three characters from the show — Homer, Marge and Flanders — alongside themed versions of Simpsons of the avatars of Fortnite Fishstick and Peely. While these premium items are purchasable as part of the pass, the new multiplayer map will remain available for free throughout the event, alongside the Battle Royale base island.
The update is also released alongside a new feature for the Fortnite called Sidekicks, which allow users to purchase small pets that follow them in real-time in gameplay. The first is not specifically based on TheSimpsonsbut the cute banana-colored dog Peels fits in perfectly nonetheless.
Like previous cartoon-based skins, character avatars Simpsons They will be cel-shaded to adhere to their designs from the series, as will the entire world of Springfield, which is playable throughout the month of November. Each week, additional updates and new content will be released, all of which will be featured in custom animated shorts co-produced by Gracie Filmsthe production team behind TheSimpsons.
The first short, titled “Apocalypse D’Oh”debuted last Saturday, the 1st, on social media, with three more arriving each subsequent Monday throughout the month (November 10th, 17th and 24th). Each of the shorts will be available to watch online at The Simpsons Collection node Disney+where all 37 seasons of the show are now streaming.
Like most of the new skins and cosmetics available on the Fortnite In recent years, the thematic content of Simpsons can be transferred to other experiences in the ecosystem, specifically Lego Fortnitewhere the characters take on mini-fig versions of their avatars. Outside the Fortnitethe Epic Games will also partner with TheSimpsons in a limited-time event with new cosmetics in Rocket League.
