“A short series that swallows”, “Strong and unique”… This new Netflix series is already attracting a lot of attention in 6 episodes

Netflix made a big splash last week with the release of two series that generated a lot of buzz on social media and AlloCiné: the Spanish drama Ni Una Mas and the thriller Eric, starring Benedict Cumberbatch. The latter is currently the third most watched title on the streaming platform.

A logical place for a series that stands out from the American giant’s other productions because of the themes discussed and its little fantasy twist. Eric immerses us in 1980s New York City. After his nine-year-old son disappears on his way to school, Vincent (Cumberbatch) embarks on a desperate search. Self-loathing and wracked with guilt, she clings to Eric, a puppet painted by Edgar, confident that she can bring this blue monster character to the screen when her son returns.

Much more than a series about a missing child, Eric is a snapshot of American society and discusses issues ranging from social crisis to systemic racism to homophobia. A mixture that seems to particularly please subscribers.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s slap

“Okay, new builds from Netflix, 1 month after Ripley (and Andrew Scott). Eric is almost the perfect miniseries. Abi Morgan/Lucy Forbes delivers a powerful, unique, terrifyingly relevant series (regardless of the era in which it’s set) that the cast carries to perfection. stunning.” (Tom Ford)
