The two occupants of the plane that crashed in a wooded area near Itapoá (SC) have been identified. The bodies of Antônio Augusto Castro and pilot Geraldo Cláudio de Assis Lima were found in the wreckage of the twin-engine plane. The information comes from The globe.

Antônio Augusto was 52 years old and born in Minas Gerais. According to the site, he was a partner in a construction company based in Governador Valadares (MG), from where the small plane left towards Florianópolis (SC).

Antônio Augusto Castro was a businessman and was one of the occupants of the plane

He was going south to inspect one of the projects his company was responsible for. Antônio had purchased the plane, model Baron 95-B55 and registration PS-BDW, less than a month ago, according to family members.

“We knew he was with this plane, but we have no other information yet. It was a plane that he also shared with his partner, they were in the process of buying it,” said Alaor Esteves, the businessman’s brother.

As determined by Earth, the bodies of both were found charred among the plane’s equipment, in the early hours of this Tuesday 4th. The search for the small plane began in the early hours of the morning, after the disappearance of the signal from the control tower. According to the firefighters, the place where the twin-engine plane was located was difficult to access, precisely because it was in the middle of a dense forest.

The plane departed from Governador Valadares (MG) headed to Florianópolis (SC)

“We had to go along a path with the 4×4 truck, about 5 km in the middle of the forest, until we reached a point where there was an antenna. From the antenna to the point where the plane crashed there were more or minus 400 meters of dense forest. Very steep, we made rope systems to recover,” the lieutenant said.

The victims were transferred from the accident site to the fire brigade command post and then taken to the Forensic Medical Institute (IML) in the region.

According to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), investigators from the Center for the Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA) were called in to collect and confirm data, preserve the crash site and initially verify the damage caused to the plane, as well as other information that could assist in the investigation.

In addition to the FAB and the firefighters, teams from the Civil Protection and the Scientific and Military Police also participated in the action.

Remember the case

The plane disappeared in the afternoon of Monday 3rd in the Joinville region, and was found early in the morning of Tuesday 4th. X (formerly Twitter)firefighters reported that the call was made around 00:30, on SC-416, in Braço do Norte.

The team confirmed to Earth that two teams had headed to the site, that of Garuva and that of Itapoá. Captain Ricardo Aberto Dummel, of the 7th BBM, reported that the small plane departed from Governador Valadares (MG) bound for Florianópolis (SC). However, he diverted the path.

“Also for unknown reasons, he chose to get off at Joinville airport, where he ended up crashing, and then crashed in the city of Barrancos, border region between Itapoá and Garuva,” he explains.
