Claudia Sheinbaumelected new president of Mexico, thanked President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) for his congratulations and support after confirming his victory. He reaffirmed ties with the Brazil and highlighted the unity between the two countries. On his X profile, Sheinbaum wrote: “I thank Lula for recognizing our victory. Mexico and Brazil are great nations united by a common vision and values. We reaffirm our friendship and desire to continue building a shared future”.

Lula, for his part, declared that the result of the Mexican elections represents a “victory of democracy” and expressed his happiness over Claudia Sheinbaum’s victory. “I am very happy with Claudia Sheimbaun’s victory as a progressive woman at the helm of the presidency of Mexico, a victory for democracy, and also for my great companion López Obrador“he said on his X profile.
Late yesterday afternoon the two leaders spoke on the phone for about 15 minutes. However, the content of the dialogue was not disclosed by Planalto.
The First Lady, Janja Lula da Silvaalso commented on the election of Claudia Sheinbaum, underlining the importance of this victory. “With a long history of struggle by its people, and especially Mexican women, this new chapter inspires and strengthens us in the fight for more women in politics”marked.
Claudia Sheinbaum’s victory had already been predicted by most research institutes, who took the result for granted. In Mexico, as there is no second round, the person who obtains the highest number of votes overall wins, regardless of the percentage.
Who is the new president of Mexico?
Known as “the doctor” For her brilliant academic credentials, Claudia Sheinbaum is a physicist with a doctorate in energy engineering, former mayor of one of the most populous cities in the world and was part of the United Nations panel of climate scientists who received the Nobel Prize for Peace.
At 61, he comes from a wealthy family of Jewish origin, having won with around 60% of the vote in the largest election in Mexico’s history. Sheinbaum marked a historic achievement in a largely Catholic country known for its deeply patriarchal culture.
The candidate, supported by Andrés Manuel López Obrador, moves between the left and the center-left. In his speeches he expressed his intention to carry forward the current president’s project, which is enjoying good support in the country.
