A true public and critical success, Season 4 of Stranger Things marked a turning point for the Netflix series due to the length of its episodes. Ranging from 64 to 150 minutes, these new chapters of the Duffer brothers’ fantasy work filled the diaries of fans of the series, tempered by the length of this season, divided into two parts, which is more.
Will season 5 be the same? The answer is no. Matt and Ross Duffer proved it Collider. Although Season 5 will be longer than Season 1, it shouldn’t exceed ten hours in total.
“We thought season four was going to be eight, and they were going to be classic length. So if you were talking to us before season 4, that’s what I’d say. I think we’re going to do eight episodes again. But we’re not going to. I don’t want that This season should be 13 hours. We’re aiming for 10 hours or something like that. I think it will be longer than season 1 because we have a lot to finish, but I don’t think it will be until season 4.”
Indeed, Ross Duffer explains that Season 4 took its time to set up the final events, which explains the long duration:
“This season, for example, it took two hours for our characters to find out that a monster was killing people in Hawkins. They know what the threat is now, and that will help speed things up. We want to give the characters moments, and a lot of these characters have developed over these four seasons, and so That’s going to be five seasons. We want to make sure that their journey ends in a way that we all enjoy.”
So when can we expect to see this Season 5? We’ll have to wait, but maybe not as long as between seasons 3 and 4. The Duffer brothers announced that they are taking a break in July and will begin writing Season 5 in August. Even if they know how Stranger Things ends, it’s necessary to work on the full script.
One thing is certain: the 5th season of the series will take place entirely in Hawkins. The Duffer Brothers confirmed this in a podcast “Happy Sad Confused”. Therefore, it will be a real homecoming with an atmosphere reminiscent of the first season of Stranger Things:
“We want to go back to a lot of the things we did in Season 1. A lot of the original groups and duos we had in Season 1 — it’s kind of nice to come full circle.”
