Twitch announces a 25% increase in subscription value in Brazil

The streaming platform will charge a small fee to users who want to subscribe to their favorite streamers

Twitch has announced an increase in the price of subscriptions, subscriptions to streamer profiles on the platform. The change will affect 30 countries, including Brazil, where the cost of the sub will no longer be R$7.90, but will rise to R$9.90 starting July 11.

According to the platform streaming, this adjustment occurs due to increased operating costs and exchange rate fluctuations. With the change in value, Brazil will see a 25% increase in the cost of each registration on the site.

In a statement to users, Twitch says the new pricing will allow content creators to receive a fair share of subscription revenue. However, it was never specified whether streamers will receive more for this or whether they will continue to receive the same amounts as always.

Complaints and values still below other territories

While the change has sparked many complaints from users, some have also argued that despite the increase, Twitch still charges a price for Group 1 subscriptions that is lower than the average for other countries in Brazil.

In the United States, for example, the same R$9.90 subscription costs $5,99which in direct conversion would amount to approximately R$32. Many still feel affected by the price change and wonder what percentage of these values are passed on to content creators.

Others wonder if the change could be a reflection of a possible new increase in subscriptions such as Amazon Prime, which allows its subscribers to gift one subscription per month at no additional cost.

Twitch is expected to hold a stream on June 12, at 5pm (Brasilia time), where the site’s managers will answer questions about the change.
