Hit by heavy rains in RS, BYD wants to recover sales in June and prepares to launch the new Song Pro hybrid SUV
After a sharp decline (-25.4%) in sales in May, BYD wants to quickly recover from June onwards in Brazil. Hit by heavy rains in Rio Grande do Sul and the Ibama strike, which delayed issuing environmental licenses for imported cars to enter Brazil, the Chinese automaker is preparing to launch a new model at the end of this month: the BYD Song Pro.
“May was an extraordinary month for BYD, which sold almost 332 thousand cars worldwide, with a growth of 38% compared to the same period in 2023. In Brazil we experienced a very challenging month for the entire automotive sector and for us not was In addition to recording two fewer working days due to the holidays, we experienced an unprecedented catastrophe in Rio Grande do Sul”, explains Alexandre Baldy, special advisor to BYD.

“We continue our efforts and our campaign to help the population of Rio Grande do Sul, bringing supplies and providing our cars, which are used by the authorities as a source of energy for the equipment used in rescues and searches”, underlines the manager .
To bounce back from this month onwards, BYD is preparing the launch of the new Song Pro SUV and numerous other actions, offers and special sales conditions. The new model has already seen its first units being brought aboard the Chinese brand’s cargo ship, the Explorer No.1 BYD, which docked in Brazil last week bringing with it more than 5,000 electric and hybrid cars.

Despite the common name, the new BYD Song Pro has a different look compared to the Plus version. Externally, the front features a redesigned bumper, new LED headlights and a renewed silver grille. At the rear, the bumper has also acquired new lines. Inside, the rotating media center measures 15.6″.
The expectation is that the new SUV will arrive in Brazil at prices close to R$ 200,000. Under the hood there is a plug-in hybrid system composed of the same 1.5 petrol engine and an electric motor that equips the Song Plus. However, the Pro version will have less power – 197 HP against 235 HP – and an electric range shorter, 71 km versus 105 km.

Even with the decline in May sales, BYD is celebrating the good result in 2024. In total, the brand accumulated 27,226 units registered in the first five months of the year, a number that already exceeds the entire performance of 2023 (17,937). Of these, 19,000 were electric vehicles, with a 71% market share in the segment.

In May, BYD’s best-selling car was the electric Dolphin Mini, which sold 2,104 units, followed by the Song Plus, which sold 1,560 units last month and is Brazil’s leading-selling plug-in hybrid SUV in 2024 (8,125 units). ). In total, the Chinese brand recorded 5,255 registrations in the month.
