‘Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry’, by Elene Naveriani, opens the event on Wednesday night, 5th; Ursula Meier will be present on the 6th
Reaching 15 years of existence, the Cinema Panorama Swiss Contemporary celebrates its 10th edition with a selection of 12 films and a tribute to the renowned Swiss director Ursula Meier — who will be present at the event and will receive a retrospective of his work.
Between documentaries and fiction, the event, which takes place in São Paulo from the 5th to the 12th of June at CineSesc, presents recent award-winning productions selected during the Jornadas de Soleure Festival 2024.
The programming reflects Switzerland’s linguistic and cultural diversity, addressing topics relevant to the contemporary world. At the same time, a special program will be presented at CCBB Brasília, with 3 films, from June 7th to 9th.

Opening
The opening ceremony takes place on June 5th, at 8pm, at CineSesc, with the screening of the award-winning Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry (2023), film by the director Elene Naveriani. The work won the award for Best Film Swiss of Fiction, in addition to Best Screenplay and Editing in Swiss Film Award 2024.
The feature film tells the story of a 48-year-old woman, who lives single in a village in Georgia and finds herself involved in local gossip as she faces the dilemma, when falling in love, of maintaining a relationship or seeking independence.
Switzerland and Brazil
The Swiss Ambassador to Brazil, Pietro Lazzeriwho will also be present at the event, highlights “that the success of the Cinema Panorama Swiss Contemporary is the result of solid partnerships between Switzerland and Brazil”.
We consider the 10th Panorama an occasion to celebrate the support of Sesc São Paulo, since its 1st edition, in 2009, fundamental for its longevity and a reference for cultural projects Swiss-Brazilians. This year, we also have the support of CCBB Brasilia, which presents a special program from 10th Panorama in the federal capital. Thanks to the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center, we had the opportunity in past editions to take this exhibition to other Brazilian capitals.

In this scenario, carrying out the 10th Panorama of Cinema Swiss Contemporarya partnership between Sesc São Paulo and the Consulate General of Switzerland in São Paulo, offers the Brazilian public the opportunity to visit a selection of Swiss films, made up of a curator with representation from both countries, both recognized for their multiculturalism.

A retrospective with the Swiss director Ursula Meier translates the importance of his work to cinema Swiss contemporary, as well as for the history of Panoramawhich throughout its editions, screened most of its films and follows its trajectory.

The selection features the filmmaker’s latest film The line/La ligne (2022), Award for Best Direction, Best Supporting Actress and Best Screenplay in Swiss Film Award 2023; Diary of my head/ Journal de matête (2018), with Fanny Ardant, My sister/L’enfant d’en haut(2012), with Lea SeydouxSilver Bear in Berlinale 2012 and the director’s debut feature film; Home (2008), with Isabelle Huppertshown during Critics’ Week Cannes Film Festival 2008 and nominated in 3 categories at the Caesar (Best First Film, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay) and Award for Best Screenplay and Best Actor in Swiss Film Prize 2009.
Complementing the retrospective, the panorama shows the short Kacey Mottet Klein, Birth of an Actor(2015) starring the actor Kacey Mottet Klein. The director will be present at all sessions to present her films and will participate in a chat with the public, on Thursday, 6, at CineSesc.

The curatorial team at Panorama It is made up of representatives from Sesc São Paulo, the Swiss Consulates General in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and has the support of the Swiss Embassy in Brazil.
