Kevin Costner was one of eight people who gave a eulogy for Whitney Houston

Kevin Costner refused to shorten his speech honoring Whitney Houston at the singer’s funeral. In a podcast interview Armchair Expertpresented by Dax Shepardthe actor recalled that he was asked to slow down his speech so that television channels, such as CNN, could broadcast commercials.

“I tried to compile everything I wanted and finally managed to write this speech,” he said. Costner. “Someone said, ‘CNN is here, they wouldn’t mind if you were shorter because they’re going to play commercials.’ I said, ‘They can get over it. They can play commercials while I talk. I don’t care.'”

The eulogy of Costner lasted 17 minutes. At first, however, he was reluctant about speaking at his funeral. Houstonwho passed away in 2012. The actor needed to be encouraged by Dionne Warwick to follow through with the idea.

“I could feel her weight passing onto me,” he said. Costner. “What am I going to say about this little girl? I went back to the church in Newark, and it was full. It was electric. There were two bands playing, the band was alive. It was like, boom!”

The bodyguard
