Eric is Netflix’s new hit mini-series, which is currently the #2 most watched series of the week. The latter takes us to New York in the 80s. If the main role was given to Benedict Cumberbatch, who does not disappoint, all the actors give a quality performance. Starting with McKinley Belcher III.
The latter plays Inspector Michael Ledroit. The choice of name is not so insignificant when we know that he will fight against corruption in the police and against the homophobia that plagues the city and the country in general.
Before joining Eric, Belcher previously worked with Netflix. In August 2023, he starred in the live-action series One Piece, where he portrayed Arlong, the arch-nemesis of the Straw Hat crew.
A fisherman like no other…
And if you don’t know the actor, that’s okay. Belcher actually wears prosthetics in the Netflix series as he plays a fisherman. In the world created by Japanese mangaka Eiichiro Oda, the Fishermen are people who have suffered years of slavery at the hands of humans (especially celestial dragons). Arlong, who grew up hating men, sails the East Blue with his crew to terrorize people and steal all their money.
In One Piece live-action, Arlong looks a little less shark-like than in the manga, but retains his main characteristics: purple skin, saw-shaped nose, sharp teeth, long hair… He is a perfect rival to Luffy. (Inaki Godoi), the hero of the series. In the final episode, the two pirates engage in a Dantesque battle, which leads to Mugiwara’s victory.
If Belcher let him know he was ready to return With One Piece Season 2 (which is set to begin filming shortly), there is still little chance that we will see Arlong again in the Netflix series, as he will not appear in the next arc…
