Luan leaves Palmeiras
Palmeiras is negotiating the final details to confirm the transfer of defender Luan to Toluca-MEX, a team coached by Renato Paiva, ex Bahia. The foreign club had already tried to sign the athlete last year and will now count on the defender for the national championship which will begin in July. The information was released by the Mexican portal Superdesportivo AM and should be announced by the San Paolo team in the next few days.
The Portuguese coach played a fundamental role in negotiating and convincing Luan to close the deal. The defender was being watched by América, another team from Mexico. Since 2017 at Palmeiras, the player has enjoyed a period of great success and has amassed an enviable CV.
Luan has won three Brazilian championships (2018, 2020 and 2022), two Libertadores (2020 and 2021), four Campeonatos Paulistas (2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024), one Recopa Sul-Americana (2022) and one Copa do Brasil (2020 ). . Negotiations with André Jardine’s América were ongoing, but Toluca went further and closed the deal which reached almost R$20 million, the value of the termination fine.
The transfer of the defender is justified by Luan’s low number of appearances in Palmeiras matches in recent seasons. Abel Ferreira had chosen the Murilo-Gustavo Gomez pairing and ended up leaving the experienced former Vasco defender as the third option. He will be teammate of Brazilian goalkeeper Thiago Volpi in the Mexican club.
